The EuroSoTL Network

About EuroSoTL

The EuroSoTL Network is a vibrant community of higher education educators, staff, and students dedicated to and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in Europe.

At its core, SoTL is both an academic community and a field of work that supports scholarly explorations of teaching, learning, and academia across disciplines in the context of higher education. SoTL can take various forms, with typical activities including:

  • Systematic inquiry into teaching and learning (e.g., empirical research)
  • Sharing scholarly outputs, such as through academic publications, conferences, institutional events
  • Contributing to scholarly communities and bodies of work
  • Collaborations with scholars across/within disciplines, institutions, and geographies

What to expect from EuroSoTL at EuroSoTL London 2027

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

A Special Interest Group (SIG) is a community where lecturers, researchers, and other higher education professionals come together around a shared interest in teaching and learning. Within a SIG, participants focus on a theme that matters to them, exchange experiences, and develop new approaches to academic teaching and learning.

The SIG Breakfast Meeting on Thursday 10 June, will take place from 8:30–10:00 am.

The Joanna Renc-Roe Award

The Joanna Renc-Roe Award is presented during each EuroSoTL conference to the contribution that distinguishes itself for pushing the boundaries of SoTL. The nature of the award is an honourable recognition and a diploma, presented to the authors of the selected contribution during each conference. Find out more here

EuroSoTL 2027 Collaborative Writing Groups 2027

The EuroSoTL 2027 Collaborative Writing Groups will bring together scholars, educators, educational developers, students and researchers from across disciplines, institutions and countries to engage in meaningful scholarly collaboration.

Working in small, internationally diverse groups, participants will explore important questions and emerging issues within the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), exchange perspectives and experiences, and work collaboratively towards producing scholarly outputs that contribute to the wider higher education community.

The writing groups aim to create opportunities for dialogue, critical reflection, networking, mentorship and collaborative knowledge creation. Participants will benefit from engaging with colleagues from different professional, institutional and disciplinary backgrounds, fostering new partnerships and strengthening the international SoTL community. Each group will provide a supportive and stimulating environment in which ideas can be developed, challenged and refined, leading to scholarly outputs that advance understanding and practice in teaching and learning.

How to Get Involved

Further information about themes, timelines, expectations and anticipated outputs will be shared in due course.

To support this initiative, a series of calls for involvement will be launched in stages:

  1. Overall Writing Group Facilitators: An initial call for colleagues interested in helping to shape, coordinate and support the overall programme.
  2. Writing Group Leads: A subsequent call for colleagues who would like to lead and facilitate individual collaborative writing groups.
  3. Writing Group Participants: A final call inviting those interested in joining a group and contributing to collaborative scholarly projects.

We warmly encourage colleagues at all stages of their SoTL journey, whether new to the field or experienced scholars, to consider becoming involved.

The EuroSoTL 2027 Collaborative Writing Groups offer a valuable opportunity to connect with an international community, develop new perspectives and partnerships, and contribute to scholarship that can make a meaningful difference to teaching and learning in higher education.

We look forward to welcoming you to this collaborative initiative!
